Spring, 2012 Marking Period #3
Due Date: 3/23/12
Having a single period this last semester has definitely changed the amount of work I am capable of producing and set me back from completing my large sculpture. I am getting a lot done when it comes to glazing my large stack of plates, it’s just taking a lot more time then expected now. Along the way I have created a series of pitchers, each around the same size yet they are each unique. My favorite among them one that has branches sprouting out as the handle and then I under-glazed shades of blue surrounding the vessel. Besides that I really put in a lot of time glazing my large stacks of plates, and I hope to be finishing up with that soon in order to start my next project. Overall this marking period I think I was capable of managing what little time I now have and although I have not produced a lot of new work, I definitely made an impact on completing the work I still have to do.
Winter 2012, Marking Period# 2
Due Date: 1/12/12
This marking period I spent a lot of time working on one project, but along the way I made a lot of smaller pieces as well. I think I really tested my multitasking skills and taught myself how to manage the time I had in the ceramics room. I really had to keep track of all my plates in order to prevent them from drying out and keeping them all at the same moisture level. Also on the days that I was letting my plates dry out, I threw other pieces on the wheel. I made a teapot with matching tea cups. I also created a few vases. Then towards the beginning I had some plates that got too dried out, so I fired about 4 of them separately and ended up doing some decorative glazing to make them a set of holiday plates. Overall I achieved a lot this marking period, and I believe all my time and work spent on my one large project will be worth it in the end. Everyday I came to ceramics ready to work, and I definitely kept myself busy with my own work and sometimes helping out others in the beginners class. I think next marking period may be a challenge because I will only have a single period rather then a double like I have now. But I think it will really test my ability and time management and I’m ready for that challenge.
Fall 2011, Marking Period# 1
Due Date: 11/4/11
Overall this first marking period I think I achieved a lot and definitely learned a lot about myself as an artist. I find myself easily being able to use many styles in ceramics whether it be on the wheel or making slab pots, they all appeal to me. However I have also learned that I could definitely spend more time on the wheel perfecting my skills. I believe I have came into class each day prepared and ready to work. I am really proud of my project ideas so far because I usually come up emtpy handed or it takes a long time for me to think of something. I really think the milk cartons will give me the opportunity to show my more artistic side using the underglazes and I’m excited to see how it will turn out. I expected a lot from myself this first marking period and I think I held up to my own standards, so in my opinion I would give myself a pretty good grade. I believe I deserve this because of my constant effort, determination, and always being and staying on task. I’m proud of what I’ve done this marking period and can’t wait to see what I can think of next.
